Are you a Nikes+ member? Are you in Toronto for the NBA All-Star weekend? Well then, you should absolutely head to 277 Queen St. West and hop on the SNKRS EXPRESS, a streetcar sneakers store.
IMPORTANT: This is not a joke!
A streetcar will be transformed into a sneakers shop, where Nike+ members will get to admire and purchase items like the Nike Air Force 1 Flyknit, Air Jordan XXX, Jordan Cement IV, Kobe 11 Royalty and other famous designer footwear. To secure a seat on the SNKRS XPRESS, members can register here.
The Toronto SNKRS XPRESS Station will be located at 277 Queen Street West in downtown Toronto, from Thursday to Sunday between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The Transit Alliance loves this idea, and suggests the Toronto Transit Commission facilitates a number of pop-up streetcar shops throughout the year. Valentine’s day is coming up, so why not sell some lingerie, or some flowers and chocolate? Partner with a few smaller Toronto boutiques or a local cupcake shop! Or use it as a tourist stop, selling Toronto magnets, t-shirts, or streetcar memorabilia!
Better yet, turn a streetcar into a mobile coffee shop, serving local, fair trade brews and pastries. The streetcar could have set stops throughout the day and be rented to businesses for meetings or events.
Toronto’s streetcars are a jewel. The newest models are sleek and chic, while the older ones hold a piece of the city’s history and therefore a special place in Toronto’s heart. Are we just going to toss these old streetcars out once they are replaced by the newer models? Instead, let’s keep them, transform them, and get a bit creative.
I’ll take a double double please!
